Things to do in Gran Canaria

Spas in Gran Canaria

Go ahead, treat yourself to a day at one of Gran Canaria's dreamy spas.

A Gran Canaria vacation is an opportunity to escape the stresses of everyday life and lose yourself in sunshine and sea views. When you're ready to take the tranquility to the next level, there's only one right activity: a spa day.

The spas in Gran Canaria range from low-key to luxe, offering treatments to suit your every whim. Wrapped, scrubbed, massaged, or dipped—take your pick. Trying the latest treatments is one of the most extravagant things to do in Gran Canaria.

Aloe Spas

Aloe vera is famous for soothing the skin, making it feel cool and moisturized. After a few days soaking in the sun on Gran Canaria's world-class beaches, nourish your body with aloe treatments at these spas.

1. Be Aloe Wellness Center at the Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity

Nestled in the hills about 15 minutes from Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés, the Be Aloe Wellness Center is a peaceful oasis. It's part of the elegant Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity, but nonguests are welcome.

A full menu of treatments awaits inside the spa. Feel muscle tension ease away during the aloe ritual, which includes a satisfying scrub and full-body aloe massage. The spa also offers aloe facials and a special after-sun aloe massage that's gentle on your skin.

Other options include chocolate therapy, lymphatic drainage, and Thai massage. For the full Be Aloe experience, book a package that includes time in the outdoor pool, oxygen therapy cabin, and Finnish sauna.

2. Spa and Wellness Center at the Grand Hotel Residencia

If you are near the Maspalomas sand dunes, the Grand Hotel Residencia spa is well worth a visit. It's compact but impeccably designed, with colorful tile work that reflects the North African influences in Gran Canaria.

There isn't a more indulgent way to soothe sunburned skin than the spa's special aloe vera body wrap, which uses aloe sourced from the Canary Islands. Or, evoke your inner Cleopatra with a wrap containing oils, royal jelly, and honey.

Are you looking forward to a week in swimwear? Prepare your skin with a sea salt and oil scrub. The scrub will leave you glowing. Therapists also provide various massages, including a stress-relieving Nepalese session with singing bowls.

Thalassotherapy Spas

Thalassotherapy spas use the therapeutic properties of the sea to bring peace and healing. It's a natural fit for Gran Canaria since the Atlantic Ocean is always within reach. If you love the natural pools of Gran Canaria, this is the spa experience for you.

3. Gloria Palace Amadores Thalasso & Hotel

The thalassotherapy centre at Gloria Palace Amadores is one of the most popular in Gran Canaria. During your visit, you'll move through a series of pools. Stand under a waterfall, enjoy a microbubble massage, and let the jets work away at your sore muscles. You can also hop in and out of pools of different temperatures.

Test out the rest of the spa's facilities when you're done swimming and soaking. Steam it out in the sauna, try the Turkish bath, or partake in massages and spa treatments. Leave ample time to float in the beautiful outdoor infinity pool overlooking the ocean.

4. Gloria Palace San Agustín Thalasso & Hotel

The thalassotherapy center at Gloria Palace San Agustín is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves spas or swimming.

Spread over 7,000 square meters, this breathtaking facility is the largest thalassotherapy center in Gran Canaria and one of the biggest in Europe. The enormous windows in the domed roof illuminate every square inch spectacularly.

The bathing area has a wider variety of indoor swimming pools than you ever thought possible. Hang out in a hydrotherapy station or a microbubble seat, work in the counterflow swimming area, or float through the massive fitness pool.

If you can pull yourself away, the spa offers massages, peels, wraps, and even algae baths.

5. Om Spa Costa Meloneras by Lopesan

Compared to the other spas in Gran Canaria, the Om Spa Lopesan Costa Meloneras is in a league of its own. Each space features a different theme, from the glowing red Lava Dome to the shimmering Himalayan salt grotto.

The experiences are as diverse as the decor. You can zone out in the lava floatation pool or cool off in Ice World. Cap it all off with a rest on the waterbeds in the Zodiac Relaxation Room.

There's so much to see and do that the spa offers a five-hour spa experience circuit with access to every space. Make a full day of it with a massage, an aromatherapy session, and a hot stone treatment.

6. Om Thalasso Villa del Conde by Lopesan

The Om Thalasso Villa del Conde by Lopesan offers a more understated experience than its sister spa in Gran Canaria but a luxurious one nonetheless.

We recommend trying the Thalasso Circuit, which takes you through a hydrotherapy pool, ice fountain, floating pool, reflexology pool, and multiple steam baths. And that's only half of it. Many areas boast a panoramic sea view to enhance the relaxation benefits.

Are you in need of an aesthetic refresh? Choose from one of the spa's beauty services. From anti-aging facials to marine skin treatments, there's an option to leave you glowing and gorgeous.

Beachfront Spas

If you're anything like us, you want to stay within the sand on your Gran Canaria vacation. Fortunately, the island has a range of wellness centers near the beach. Each one delivers a host of rejuvenating treatments, often with a view of the sea. They're the perfect places to rejuvenate after a trip to the markets in Gran Canaria.

7. Hotel Palm Beach

Take one look at the Hotel Palm Beach wellness center, and you'll know you're in for a treat. This design-forward space is the epitome of chic, with a generous dose of earthy textures and historic accents. Mobile phones and loud conversations aren't allowed, so you're guaranteed a peaceful atmosphere.

Before your treatments, bask in the steam of the Finnish sauna and center yourself in the salt cave. Then, it's time for some serious pampering. From full-body scrubs and wraps to lumbar massages that release persistent tension, the spa menu is overflowing with luxuries. Little ones can join in the fun with the special kids' wellness treatments.

8. Seaside Sandy Beach

On the 10th floor of the Seaside Sandy Beach hotel, you'll find a wellness hub in Playa del Inglés. Its treatment menu delights even the most dedicated spa enthusiasts.

Curious about facials? Rejuvenate your skin with 3D Collagen Shock or tackle pesky age spots with the Diamond Lighting System. Feeling sluggish from the sand and sun? A scrub in the steam bath will pep you right up.

Afterwards, head straight for what we think is the best sauna on the island. A huge window occupies one side, providing an awe-inspiring ocean view. If you're too relaxed to leave, the outdoor lounge chairs are a great spot for a nap.

9. Bull Costa Canaria & Spa

The Bull Costa Canaria & Spa wellness center has everything you'd expect, from a Turkish bath to a spacious pool complex. Your only challenge will be deciding what to do first. We love the bubble beds, and a massage is a must.

The hotel and spa have an adults-only policy. You might share the facilities with a few blissed-out guests, but you can expect a serene setting.

10. Bohemia Suites & Spa

Bohemia Suites & Spa is a spa hotel in Playa del Inglés, a short stroll from the sand. As soon as you walk in, you'll feel the stress melt away. The natural wood interior creates a grounding feeling.

Spa activities happen both indoors and outdoors. Let go of all muscle tension in the sun-soaked Flotarium, or relax in the softly lit Vitality pool. We're big fans of the hot-cold method; spend a few minutes in the sauna, followed by a dip in the cold pool. By then, you'll be ready to let it all go during a massage or body treatment.

The spa offers a fascinating range of facial treatments, including microneedling and radiofrequency facials, as well as a full range of waxing services.

11. Santa Catalina

While Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés offer a wide range of wellness centers, Las Palmas has a few well-regarded options. One of our favorites is the wellness and fitness area at Santa Catalina, a Royal Hideaway Hotel. Visiting the hotel is half the fun. It's stunning and almost intimidatingly sophisticated.

You'll forget all that as soon as you settle into the outdoor thermal circuit at the plush spa wellness center—hydrotherapy, thermal bath, sauna circuit, shower circuit, repeat. Be warned: Once you've had an aromatic shower and a tropical rain shower, everyday baths will never be the same. Book a massage or a facial to cap off a perfect spa day.

12. Occidental Roca Negra

If you're staying near Puerto de las Nieves, the spa at the Occidental Roca Negra is a convenient option. Like many of Gran Canaria's wellness and beauty centers, this spot is all about hydrotherapy. Bubble pools, relaxation pools, and cyclone showers stand ready to wash away any negative energy you're carrying.

The spa has limited spaces for one-on-one services, so be sure to book your treatments in advance. When you're done, wander outside to enjoy the expansive swimming pool.

Rural Spas

Gran Canaria is blessed with staggering natural beauty. Hiking isn't the only way to experience the wilderness. You can also appreciate it from a pool or treatment room at a rural spa. Far from the crowds of tourists near the sea, these bewitching locations offer silence and true serenity.

13. Parador de Cruz de Tejeda

The spa at Parador de Cruz de Tejeda boasts a spa experience like no other. Here, you can see the mountain peaks as you soak in a hydrothermal pool. The scent of pine trees floats up on the breeze, creating the ultimate outdoor escape.

Once you're relaxed, head inside for a luxe spa treatment. We recommend a hot stone massage followed by a Pure Vitamin C treatment to get your skin glowing. Book a stay at the hotel to get a discount at the spa.

14. Casa León Royal Retreat

Perched in the hills high above Maspalomas, the Casa León Royal Retreat spa feels a million miles away from the busy beach town. There's nothing more pressing to do here than admire the lush greenery on the neighboring hilltop as you feel the hot tub jets soothe your lower back.

The spa offers an exceptional selection of well-being services, including reflexology, lymphatic drainage, and full-body peeling. You’ll find a new way to become one with nature during one of the spa's memorable massages. The masseuses use products derived from the land that surrounds you.

15. Inagua Spa & Wellness at the Cordial Mogán Playa Hotel

Inagua Spa & Wellness at the Cordial Mogán Playa Hotel is among the most appealing spa centers in Gran Canaria. It all starts outside. Cacti and other native plants surround the pool and hot tub, transforming the space into a lush retreat. From your spot in the Flotarium, it's easy to imagine you've stumbled into a desert oasis.

A new world of color awaits indoors, where the hydrotherapy pools reflect the vibrant tile wall mosaics. As you ponder the spa menu, take it all in from the sensation shower or the hammam. Highlights include unique wellness rituals from Hungary and Egypt.
