If you're looking for things to do in Barcelona, hiking might not be at the top of your list. There are many ways to pass the hours in the city, from catching one of our spectacular shows to soaking up its history and culture.

If you're willing to lace up your hiking boots and explore the paths that crisscross this region, however, the rewards are huge. From lush forests to challenging climbs, the Barcelona region has some of the most beautiful hikes in Spain.

Near Barcelona/Collserola Park

Planning a family vacation in Barcelona and looking for hikes that aren't too challenging? There are plenty of hiking routes available near Barcelona, including in beautiful Parc de Collserola. Take a look at these great hikes that are easily accessible from the city.

1. La Mola Trail

What better place to start than with the legendary La Mola Trail? Winding through the breathtakingly beautiful Parc Natural de Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac, the La Mola Trail is a hiker's paradise. It offers a journey through rugged landscapes and ancient wonders.

The trail begins at a parking area inside the park located in front of an information point, setting the stage for a day of exploration.

As you set out on the SL-C 50 trail, you'll find yourself immersed in beauty — much like when you're sitting in the audience of one of our shows. This well-marked trail guides you deeper into the heart of the park.

Be prepared as the terrain gradually transforms from gentle slopes to steep and rocky paths, testing your mettle and rewarding your determination.

The real adventure awaits at the summit of La Mola. The final stretch of the hike follows the Camí dels Monjos (PR-C 31), winding its way past ancient caves and hidden treasures. Along the way, you'll pass by the mystical Cova de l'Hort dels Monjos, a testament to the rich history and heritage of this remarkable region.

At long last, you'll reach the pinnacle of your journey: La Mola. Standing tall and proud, this iconic peak offers panoramic views that will leave you spellbound. From the rolling hills of the park to the distant horizon of the Mediterranean Sea, the vistas are nothing short of spectacular. They'll remind you the world is filled with beauty and majesty.

2. Baixador de Vallvidrera to Sant Cugat

Welcome to a hiking expedition like nothing you've experienced before. Here is where the wonders of nature and the charms of Catalonia await. Your journey begins at the Baixador de Vallvidrera station. You can easily get there via the S1 and S2 trains, both of which require a Zone 1 metro ticket.

The tranquil beauty of Collserola, one of Barcelona's most cherished natural treasures, will take your breath away. The path winds its way through verdant forests and rolling hills, offering glimpses of breathtaking vistas along the way.

Our first stop is the historic Casino de l'Arrabassada, a majestic relic of days past that once played host to the city's elite. Now crumbling into ruins, this old hotel inspires a sense of awe at Barcelona's rich history.

Continuing on, you'll come upon the Font d'en Ribes, a natural spring that has provided refreshment to weary travelers for centuries. Take a moment to rest your legs, admire the fountain, and drink in the serenity of your surroundings.

From there, your journey will take you to the hermitage of Sant Medir, a sacred sanctuary nestled among the trees. While you're here, pay homage to the patron saint of travelers and seek his blessing for the road ahead.

Nearing your destination of Sant Cugat, you'll witness some of the most gorgeous scenery that Collserola has to offer. Rolling hillsides give way to views of the Catalan countryside, while quaint villages dot the landscape like jewels in a crown.

3. Vallvidrera to Sant Pere Mártir

Another popular place to go hiking in Colla Park also begins in the charming village of Vallvidrera. It winds its way through lush forests and tranquil meadows, reaching the southernmost edges of the park. Along the way, you'll encounter the Font de Can Llavallol, a natural spring.

As you hike, you’ll experience the peaceful solitude of the forest, surrounded by towering trees and the melodious chirping of birds. As you emerge from the shelter of the trees, you'll find yourself atop the crest of the hill, overlooking the city below.

This vantage point gives you a breathtaking panorama of Barcelona's skyline and its iconic landmarks. Check out its bustling streets spread out below like a patchwork quilt.

Coastal Trails

4. Costa Brava Trail

For a memorable hike, we recommend starting from Cala de Castell, near the charming town of Palamós, and following the coastline toward the Jardíns de Cap Roig and the enchanting fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell.

This scenic hiking route takes you on a captivating journey. You'll soak in the beauty of your surroundings and immerse yourself in the rich history of the region. It's easy to see why the Camí De Ronda is truly a hike like no other.

Pyrenees and Surrounding Regions

The city of Barcelona lies close to the Pyrenees, providing excellent opportunities to escape into the mountains. Consider adding one of these hiking routes to your list of things to do in Barcelona. After you're done hiking, cap off your day by catching one of our spectacular shows.

6. Vall de Núria

The Vall de Núria hike may be challenging for beginners to Barcelona hiking. But, there are plenty of shorter routes for those who want a more leisurely stroll. The trails are so well-marked that there's no risk of getting lost, even if your sense of direction is missing in action.

Plenty of wonders await you in Vall de Núria. Picture-perfect green valleys stretch as far as the eye can see. When pristine snow blankets the winter landscape, it becomes a playground for snow sports enthusiasts.

Hop aboard the train and take the trip from Barcelona to Vall de Núria to take on this hike. We promise you it's worth the journey!

7. Cingles de Bertí

For one of the best hikes near Barcelona, check out the Cingles de Bertí. This spectacular cliff formation sits in the Vallès Oriental region, just 40 kilometers north of Barcelona. You’ll feast your eyes on panoramic vistas that will leave you speechless.

To access this natural wonder, simply hop aboard the R3 train from Barcelona's Sants station to Centelles. From there, you can easily reach the trailheads by taxi, bike, or, for the adventurous souls among us, on foot.

Now, onto the hiking routes and trails. Brace yourself for an adventure as you trek the trail up to the Puiggraciós summit, the Cingles de Berti loop, and the Ermita de Sant Miquel del Fai trail. Each route promises its own unique blend of thrills and wonders, guaranteed to leave you spellbound.

As you make your way through the rugged terrain of the Cingles de Bertí, keep your eyes peeled for points of interest that will take your breath away. For example, the Ermita de Sant Martí Xic is a small chapel steeped in centuries of legend and lore.

The Cingles de Bertí loop will whisk you away on a 3- to 4-hour journey of discovery. Meanwhile, the Puiggraciós summit trail and the Ermita de Sant Miquel del Fai trail will take you on a 4- to 5-hour odyssey through the rugged beauty of the Catalan countryside.

And while the difficulty may vary from moderate to challenging, rest assured that the rewards are more than worth the effort.

Natural Parks and Green Valleys

Barcelona is uniquely positioned close to both Montserrat Mountain and Montseny National Park. These well-preserved areas of natural beauty are perfect playgrounds for keen hikers. Be sure to pack a good pair of hiking boots so you can make the most of everything the area has to offer.

8. Montserrat Mountain to Top Sant Jeroni

This challenging trail takes in the highest point of Montserrat Mountain: Sant Jeroni. The path to this peak isn't for the faint of heart, but fear not — great rewards await! Along the way, you'll get to experience sweeping vistas of the surrounding landscape, from lush valleys to craggy peaks.

The descent from Sant Jeroni is steep! We advise bringing a pair of hiking poles to keep you upright so you don't tumble head over foot like one of our somersaulting acrobats. This trail takes about 4 hours to complete, so make sure you're wearing your most comfortable hiking boots.

9. Montseny National Park

Prepare to be enchanted when you hike through Montseny National Park, a UNESCO Nature Reserve and World Biosphere Reserve. As you explore the trails, watch out for wildlife, such as shrews, badgers, bullfinches, and grass frogs. You might even spot a wild boar!

Getting to Montseny National Park is a breeze. Simply hop aboard the R3 line from Barcelona's Arc de Triomf station to Figaro-Montmany to find yourself at the gateway to adventure.

No journey through Montseny would be complete without a visit to its historical treasures, such as the charming Ermita Santa Maria de Tagamanent church. This ancient sanctuary offers a glimpse into Catalan history. Its simple yet elegant architecture allows shafts of sunlight to filter into the interior, casting patterns on the stone floor.

Montseny is usually a quieter hike than Montserrat, so it's a great place to explore in peace.

10. Parc del Garraf

In the coastal park of Parc del Garraf, an abundance of spectacular hiking trails beckon adventurers. Those who long for the sea breeze in their faces will enjoy the Coastal Path, which winds its way along the rugged cliffs.

For anyone who prefers to explore on two wheels, the trail leading to the quaint town of Garraf gives the opportunity to pedal through sleepy villages and sun-dappled forests.

Before you set out on your journey, be sure to stop by one of the information centers scattered throughout the park. You'll be able to pick up leaflets and maps detailing the various hiking routes, ensuring you make the most of your time in Parc del Garraf.

11. Sant Aniol d’Aguja, Sadernes, Alta Garrotxa

Yet another breathtaking hiking route in Barcelona that will leave you in awe is the turquoise pools and Waterfall of Sant Aniol.

Starting from the charming hostel in Sadernes, follow the Path of Valencians along the river. Along the way, you'll discover pools perfect for a refreshing swim. Don't miss the medieval bridge of Valenti, whose arches gracefully span the gorge.

Soon, you'll find the chapel of Sant Aniol. Just a short walk beyond, you'll find yourself mesmerized by the main waterfall. Parking is available just after the hostel, near the start of the hike.

12. Camino de Santiago From Montserrat

Embark on a sacred journey while you hike along the Camino de Santiago Catalán by San Juan de la Peña. This branch of the Jacobean hiking route takes in one of the most iconic sights in this region: the mountain of Montserrat.

The trail winds through the villages of Sant Pau de la Guàrdia and Castellolí. If you're tired after all that hiking, you can catch a bus or train from Castellolí back to Barcelona.

13. Enchanted Forest of Orrius

Ever wanted to see one of the famous giant head sculptures without having to go to Easter Island? You're in luck! There's a Moai right here in the enchanted forest of Orrius. Many other sculptures are also on display in the enchanted forest.

Give yourself plenty of time to complete this hiking route in Barcelona so you have time to take them all in.
